Intel recently outlined its plans for traditional notebook, CULV-based ultra-thin notebook and netbook product lines for its partners, according to sources at notebook makers. Intel’s next-generation Calpella notebook platform will launch as scheduled in the third quarter 2009 and targeting models in the 14.0-, 15.6-, 17.1- and 18.4-inch segments at retail prices of above US$1,200 initially for high-end market. Meanwhile, Intel will also reduce the price of the Montevina platform to clear out inventory.

Due to the low market demand, Intel is considering phasing out Atom N280 and GN40 chipset combination for netbooks and will leave the Atom N270 and 945GSE chipset to play the key role until September this year. The Atom N270 and 945GSE chipset combination will start to be phase out of the market in September and will be replaced by the next-generation Atom CPU (Pineview) and (Tiger Point) chipset. The new platform will target the 10-inch netbook segment with prices ranging between US$399-599. Intel has also designed a standard 8.9-inch netbook for white-box vendors. Specifications include Intel’s Atom N270 CPU, 945GSE chipset, 512MB memory, and 8GB or 16GB flash-based storage. The systems will run on Moblin v2.
