Intel Larrabee samples said to perform like GeForce GTX 285

By

After teasing up with a nice wafer in April, Intel has kept rather quiet about its return to the graphics market but as the release of the first Larrabee cards closes in, more info about them are starting to come about. The latest Larrabee rumor is that the current samples can deliver performance comparable to Nvidia’s highest-end single-GPU offer, the GeForce GTX 285.

Since Nvidia and AMD will most likely have new, DirectX 11-ready high-end cards by the time the Larrabee debuts then the reported performance won’t be enough to challenge them. This would still be in line with some previous mentions that Intel will not target the performance crown with Larrabee but rather take on the mid- to upper mid-range segment. Larrabee is expected to make its way into stores late this year or in early 2010.
