Frostbite Engine for Nintendo Switch Tipped Via LinkedIn Profile

There have been rumors going around for a while now that EA was working to bring the Frostbite engine to the Nintendo Switch. The rumor first surfaced after a YouTuber found a detail on a LinkedIn page of an EA Software Engineer. The page noted that the engineer was working on bringing existing software and dev kits to the Switch.

That LinkedIn page has now been updated to simply say the engineer was working on bringing existing software and dev kits to “different platforms.” If true, this move may mean more third-party games on the Switch using the Frostbite engine reports Nintendo Life.

It would also presumably mean that EA’s Switch titles will move to the Frostbite engine. Currently, the EA FIFA franchise on the Switch is running a custom engine. A move to Frostbite would put the games on the same engine for all platforms.

EA said of why it made a custom engine for the Switch, “We intentionally chose to do a custom engine because we felt that rather and try and get Frostbite running and end up having to downsize things and making it just a smaller, lower-quality version of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, we wanted this to be a FIFA that stands on its own two feet.”
