Facebook Integrates Reactions into Messenger for Some Users

By

Some users of Facebook Messenger app have found a new feature they can use. The new feature is the ability to add reactions to messages sent during a text conversation with a person or a group. To use the feature the user can hover over a message in a text thread and select the emoji face there.

Once selected you can enter several reactions that appear to be placed right next to the message on eh thread. Options include a like, dislike, crying emoji, hearts emoji and several others. Everyone in the message thread will be able to see the Reaction and other users can add their own reactions as well.

You will be able to tap the reactions to see a full list of who left the reactions. If you don’t have this new reactions feature on your messenger app don’t be surprised. Facebook issued a statement that calls Messenger Reactions in part a “small test”, Facebook told TechCrunch:

“Were always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message.”

Facebook thinks that the reaction might make it easier for people to coordinate logistics with a group of people the company says that people use the app to make plans with groups frequently and that it sees the thumbs up and thumbs down button as “yes” and “no” more than “like” or “dislike” even though many users will use those buttons for likes or dislikes. The goal is to make it clearer in fast message threads which message you are responding to.
