EVE Online: In-Game Money Now Buys You Real NVIDIA Graphics Cards

By

So, that’s real NVIDIA graphics cards for pretend money used solely within a video game. It’s normally real money for in-game virtual items, so this sounds like an early April Fool, doesn’t it? It isn’t.

CCP, the developers of EVE Online have partnered with NVIDIA to allow gamers to purchase midrange $200 GTX 560 graphics cards by paying for it with in-game currency PLEX. They are trialling this initially with an offer of only 100 cards, limited to one per account. CCP said that since the announcement, the in-game price of PLEX jumped “significantly”.

PLEX (Pilot License Extension) is an in-game currency that can be used to pay for 30-day EVE subscriptions. PLEX can be purchased with ISK, EVE’s main currency that can be earned throughout the game, meaning some dedicated players end up with a free subscription each month. Now they may end up with a “free” graphics card as well.
