EU Launches Antitrust Probe Against Apple Computer

By

The European Union (EU) announced an investigation of Apple is underway for antitrust violations related to the pricing of music sold through Apple’s iTunes store. The EU filed formal charges against Apple and the major record companies because European consumers can only buy iTunes in their own countries and can’t shop around.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said the company wanted to operate a single store for all of Europe, but music labels and publishers said there were limits to the rights they could grant to Apple. “We don’t believe Apple did anything to violate EU law,” he said. “We will continue to work with the EU to resolve this matter.”
