DRAM contract price likely to see improvement in July

By

After seeing an end to consecutive falls in DRAM contract prices in June, industry players, citing the aggressive push for higher memory densities by PC OEMs, are optimistic that an increase will be seen in the near term.

DRAMeXchange observes that PC OEMs, who are growing their inventory prior to a seasonal upturn, will stimulate demand gradually. The memory-trading firm estimates that a minimum of a 10% sequential improvement in average selling prices (ASPs) will be seen in July. PC OEMs including Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are also filling the positive price trend. Sources revealed that Dell and HP aim to boost the sales ratio of 2GB DRAM module-equipped PCs to 30% and 60% respectively in the third and fourth quarter.
