Dell’s spurning competition amongst PC manufacturers in the notebook department. Dell has added the XPS M140 to its line of XPS notebooks, driving it down into the sub-$1000 market. With a Pentium M 740 processor, DVD burner, and wireless LAN, it’s a really good buy for the average consumer!

Dell, by adding a new M140 series to its consumer XPS notebook line, will be driving down average selling prices (ASPs) for Media Center notebooks, according to a report by Current Analysis. Featuring a 14W chassis and the Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) OS, the M140-series models will hit the market this month, with a starting price of US$999, said the market research company. The M140 is Dell’s recent addition to its XPS family, reports Current Analysis, adding that in September 2005, Dell launched a campaign around its XPS brand to reposition the XPS- brand from solely a gaming centric device to include a comprehensive array of high-end, home entertainment offerings. In conjunction with the new brand campaign, Dell launched a new service package for the XPS systems including a one-year warranty, dedicated phone line and sales representatives resulting in reduced hold times for XPS customers, an online chat forum and XPS-trained technicians, notes the market research firm. Dell’s XPS notebook family now includes two product lines, the 17W M170 and 14W M140, Media Center notebooks, said the company.
