Subjective Listening: Music, Movies, and Games

Not everyone hears the same as each other. Peoples ears are different and preferences dictate our style. The subjective listening tests in our reviews not only compare the product with other gaming headsets, but also audiophile-grade headphones. Those who dont regularly listen with higher-end equipment may not notice the sound quality deficiencies we are able to notice.

Music

The Vengeance 2100 is the best sounding headset in Corsairs 2013 refresh. A wide audible frequency response, good to great detail at all frequencies, and a warm sound characteristic that energizes music makes for a great sound from the Vengeance 2100. There was no real need to tune a graphic equalizer for this headset since there were no distracting peaks. However, if you find the treble sounding too harsh, then target a peak between 8k-10k Hz for equalization. Many of the preset EQ profiles in the headset software Corsair Headset Control Panel target this peak.

There were few songs that sounded underwhelming when listening with the Vengeance 2100. Some orchestral songs sounded unnatural, but that was easily attributed to the headsets punchy bass. Its not a super powerful basshead headphone, but the Vengeance 2100 is quite fun for listening to just about every music genre ranging from rock and heavy metal to techno and house.

Movies

The good frequency response, powerful bass, and energetic trebles make for a close cinematic listening experience with movies. There were virtually no problems with movie playback. The headset has a wide stereo soundstage and effects that move from one ear to the other were noticeable. Dolby Headphone however, was largely ineffective and thus we suggest leaving it disabled.

Games

The Vengeance 2100s good sound characteristic also makes it good for games, providing good audio reproduction. Of the 2013 Corsair headsets, the Vengeance 2100 had the most natural sound lending to superior immersion. Again, the stereo soundstage is good, but Dolby Headphone is not incredibly interesting. In-game audio engines were oftentimes superior.

Microphone

All our reviews so far for the 2013 Corsair headsets have given praise to their microphones. The Vengeance 2100 is no exception, rendering voice playback with great detail and fullness.
