Compal notebook shipments hit high in September

Compal Electronics saw its notebook shipments increase 56% on year to 2.1 million units in September, bringing the notebook shipments for the third quarter of 2007 to 6.1 million units, up 19% on year, according to company sources.

For the first three quarters of this year, notebook shipments reached 16 million units, an increase of over 70% on year, said the sources. Compal is expected to ship at least six million notebooks in the fourth quarter, enabling the company to reach its goal of shipping 22 million notebooks in 2007, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. With strong orders coming from brand vendors, including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell, Acer and Toshiba, the company is expected to ship 30 million notebooks in 2008, according to sources at Taiwan-based securities houses.
