Coming iPhone 8 Might be Cheaper than We Thought

By

The new iPhones expected to be unveiled at WWDC this year have been leaked in plenty of rumors so far and as of now we have no idea if any of those rumors are really true. The last time we were sure at all about what an iPhone might look like before it launched was when one was found in a bar several models back. The big rumors that keeps floating around this time out focuses on the iPhone 8, the high-end model expected to have an OLED screen.

The most disturbing rumor about that new iPhone with the curved screen is that it will be priced starting at $1,000. A new rumor is making the rounds that suggests the iPhone 8, as the rumored device has come to be known, will be much cheaper than we thought. In fact, the rumor says that we can thank Samsung and the Galaxy S8 line for Apple rethinking the pricing of its upcoming iPhone models.

The rumor claims that with Samsung cramming the big 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screens into the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus has pushed Apple to rethink its pricing. Forbes reports that the iPhone 7S (the expected entry-level new iPhone) will sell for $649, the same price as its predecessor. The iPhone 7S will see its price drop from the previous $769 to $749. The big change will come in that high-end iPhone 8 device that will start at $850.

That $850 price tag is still big money for a new phone, but it’s better than the line starting at $1,000 as was rumored before. Odds are there will be a version with more storage that sells at $1,000 or more. This rumor may not be totally accurate though, costs for Apple to build the iPhone 8 are thought to be in the area of $70 to $90 more than the other iPhone models and Apple will certainly pass those costs on the the consumer. Perhaps the $850 price allows Apple to do that, only time will tell if these pricing rumors are true.
