Chrome OS Enters Test Pilot Phase w/ Cr-48 Chrome Notebook

By

Google recently announced that Chrome OS is at the stage where they need feedback from real users! It looks like some of the features in Chrome OS require new hardware, so the company has launched a pilot program where they will give test notebooks to qualified users, developers, schools and businesses. The notebook they are giving to the pilot program users is a plain Jane 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook called the Google Cr-48 that runs an Intel Atom processor and has a full-sized keyboard complete with Google key customizations (no caps-lock and function keys). Google says the Cr-48 boots in about 10 seconds and resumes from sleep instantly, so we are guessing that it uses an SSD. There is also built-in Wi-Fi and 3G in this 3.8 pound notebook, so you should be able to take it anywhere and use it online! Legit Reviews did apply to be in the pilot program, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed! With CES 2011 coming up we’ll be able to put it to the ultimate road test by using it to publish content from one of the busiest trade shows of the year.

The test notebooks exist only to test the softwarethey are black, have no branding, no logos, no stickers, nothing. They do have 12.1 inch screens, full-sized keyboards and touch pads, integrated 3G from Verizon, eight hours of battery life and eight days of standby time. Chrome notebooks are designed to reach the web instantly, are easy to share among friends and family, and simply by logging in, all of your apps, bookmarks and other browser settings are there. Setting up a new machine takes less than a minute. And even at this early stage, we feel there is no consumer or business operating system that is more secure.
