Boot Camp Installation – Windows Vista on a Mac Notebook

What if…

Let me introduce myself… My name is Jason, and I am a Windowsholic. Many can empathize and sympathize with that statement. I have been on Windows for about 20 years myself. In fact, let me see if you recognize these desktops…

Those screen shots, in order, are from Windows 2.0 and Windows 3.0. We have come along way! With the progress and success of Microsoft, and the fear that the average individual has when it comes to computers and learning something new, it is no wonder that if you ask anyone if they have tried Linux or OSX that they just look at you with a blank look. Many people do not even know that there is an alternative to Windows other than a newer Windows! But what if you could run both Windows and ______. (you insert the OS of your interest) Many people have an interest in other OS’s, but very few have the guts to take it to the next level and actually try a new OS. Why is that? Because we have lived with Windows and its wide acceptance for soooooooooooo long!

Last fall, I took a plunge out of my comfort zone and decided to try out Linux. I installed Ubuntu, and overall, I had a pleasant experience with it. When all was said and done though, I could not get totally away from Windows as I needed a few applications that I just could not replace in Linux. So, I ended up going totally back to Windows. The Linux experience was good for me, but also made me realize that most people will not be comfortable with Linux as it was just so involved.

Fast forward to a few months into the new year, and an official new release from Microsoft in Vista, and I am once again trying something new. I am typing this on a Mac and OSX. Now, I have used a Mac sparingly, and even made fun of those that were “Mac addicts.” But after owning one, and using it, I have to say that I am now a convert. I would have to admit that I have been totally overwhelmed by the ease of use and speed of the MacBook Pro that I am on. There was only one problem for me with the whole Mac thing… no gaming! It is sad to have such a great machine, but yet it has very few games that you can play on it. And that is not because it is unable to play them, they just are not written for them! So what am I suppose to do? Enter Bootcamp!
