Asustek reported to have an overstock of 965 motherboards

By

Sources at channel vendors have reported that first-tier motherboard maker Asustek Computer is facing an overstock of 965 chipset-based motherboards. Other first-tier makers such as Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI) recently dropped prices for their newer Intel 3-series motherboards forcing Asustek to follow suit. This has resulted in Asustek’s own 965 and 3-series motherboards being in competition with each other in the market, noted the sources.

Additionally, there has been a decline in 965 chipset demand due to Intel’s increasing focus on pushing the new 1333MHz FSB supporting Core 2 Duo E6050-series processors, intended to be paired with 3-series chipsets and which are not natively supported by 965 chipsets.
