Asustek, MSI and Gigabyte see February revenues drop on month

Affected by the fewer working days in February due to the Lunar New Year plus heavy snows in China, first-tier motherboard makers including Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology, all saw their revenues in February drop on month, although each saw increases on year.

Asustek expects its revenues performance in March to out-pace the previous two months, accord to CFO, David Chang. Some market watchers predict that Asustek’s revenues in the first quarter this year will reach its goal of NT$65 billion (US$2.12 billion). The company’s motherboard shipments in February had single-digit growth on month, while notebook shipments remained level with the volume shipped in January at 400,000 units. The company’s graphics card and Eee PC shipments both saw an on month drop in February, noted Chang adding that the company expects its motherboard shipments in the first quarter to surpass its original goal of 5.5 million units, while shipments of graphics cards, notebooks and Eee PCs will meet original expectations.
