ASUS UL80Vt-A1 Thin and Light Notebook Review

A Closer Look

ASUS UL80V Open

The ASUS UL80VT is a fairly plain and professional looking notebook. It has a decent sized 14″ screen, and it has no real unique aesthetic features to make it stand out. If you worry about fingerprints, then you’ll be wiping them off of the shiny surface nonstop with this machine.

ASUS UL80V Open Back

ASUS made sure to include their logo on the back of the screen of the UL80VT to get some advertisement while you’re using it in an airport or coffee shop.

ASUS UL80V Keyboard

The keyboard has no real distinguishing characteristics. All of the keys are where you would expect them to be, which is nice when you don’t have to get used to something different.

ASUS UL80V Touchpad

The touchpad, on the other hand, has a series of indentations setting it apart from the rest of the laptop. I am fairly neutral on this, although I must admit that it is very easy to feel where the touchpad is without having to look for it. The left and right mouse buttons appear as one long bar at the bottom of the touchpad and are fairly easy to use.

ASUS UL80V Closed Front

Here is a picture of the front of the UL80VT while closed. While it is slender at 1″ thick, the UL80VT is what I would consider to be fairly typical from this angle.

ASUS UL80V Left Side

On the left side of the ASUS UL80Vt we have the Security Port that allows the laptop to be secured to a fixed object with a 2mm metal cable, the Power (DC) Input, Air Vents, Display Output, HDMI Port, 2 USB Ports, Mic Input Jack and Headphone Output Jack.

ASUS UL80V Right Side

On the right side of the ASUS UL80VT we have the Optical Drive, Flash Memory Slot, USB Port and LAN Port. My first real complaint about this laptop is that the button for the optical drive is narrow and set in a bit. I have slender fingers and have a difficult time opening the drive. I can’t imagine if I had thicker fingers like many guys and a lot of other females do.

ASUS UL80V Bottom Label

Here is a picture of the label on the bottom of the ASUS UL80VT. As you can see here, the UL80VT is also referred to as UL80V and UL80VT-A1. You can also see that Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System comes standard on this notebook.

ASUS UL80V HDD

The hard drive is easily removed from the UL80VT via a door on the bottom of the notebook.

ASUS UL80V HDD

Here is the Seagate Momentus 320GB, 5400rpm HDD that came with the UL80VT. You can also get this laptop with a 250GB or 500GB HDD.
