Final Thoughts and Conclusions

The ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 OC Edition gaming graphics card performed just above the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 FE since it has higher clock speeds. The performance boost is only slight, but it is seen in almost every game title and application that we tested. The performance of this card won’t make you buy it over another RTX 2080 model, but the premium features of this card will make it appealing to gamers.

Where this card really excels over the RTX 2080 FE is on pretty much everything else. You have more customizable RGB lighting, dual BIOS and one heck of a GPU cooler that allows for better thermal temperatures. At load we couldn’t top 63C on our open air test bench when we played over an hour of PUBG and the fan noise was more than acceptable after playing for hours.

Right now the ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 ROG STRIX Gaming OC Edition graphics card is available for $869.99 shipped and is backed by a 3-year warranty. There are about a dozen different RTX 2080 models available for less than that price with the lowest being $100 less at $769.99 plus shipping. NVIDIA said that partners base pricing should start around $699 for the RTX 2080, but we certainly aren’t seeing any cards available for purchase this soon after launch for that price.

The ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 takes the NVIDIA ‘Turing’ GPU and surrounds it with the premium features that ASUS thinks gamers and enthusiasts will want. Those features will make you pay more money for this card versus some of the others on the market. It’s up to you to determine if they are worth it or not. At the end of the day the ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 ROG STRIX Gaming OC Edition was a joy to test out and game on for the week that we had it in our test system. The performance was spot on, GPU temperatures were low at idle and load, fan noise wasn’t bothersome, there was no choke whine and the RGB lighting was pretty sweet. We’d easily recommend this card as long as you are okay with the price premium it carries over other RTX 2080 models.

Legit Bottom Line: The ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 ROG STRIX Gaming OC Edition has a long laundry list of features and is very well designed, but it will cost you more to step up to this model.
