Apple Releases iOS 6 for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

Apple has released iOS 6 for its iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch products, bringing over 200 new features to the operating system. Now users of older iPhones can at least have operating system parity with the new iPhone 5. Updating to the new operating system can be done for free over the air while connecting the charger while doing so is strongly recommended to prevent a failed update and a potentially bricked device. GottaBeMobile has a guide to help the upgrade go smoothly and avoid potential pitfalls.

There are improvements to Maps, Siri, new Facebook integration, photo sharing, Passbook, FaceTime, phone functionality, mail, Safari, accessibility, camera with new panorama enhancement, phone finder for lost devices, friend finder, remodelled stores and new features for China.

Maps for example have been significantly improved, providing great detail by being vector based which helps when zooming in, along with smooth panning and rotation. “Get visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. Even soar over cityscapes to see the sights from the air in amazing, high-resolution quality.” Siri has also been enhanced to understand more languages and Facebook has been fully integrated into the operating system, too. Apple’s website explains all the improvements in detail.

Facebook: now it’s easier than ever to interact with the world’s largest social network. And there’s no need to leave your app to do it. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. If you have your hands full, just ask Siri to post for you. You need to sign in to Facebook only once, and you’ll be off and sharing. Never miss another birthday or get-together, since Facebook events are integrated into Calendar. And your Facebook friends’ profile information is integrated into Contacts, so when they update an email address or phone number you automatically stay up to date. Now that’s something to post about.
