Apple iPhone 5 Lightning Connectors Arrive

With the iPhone 5 launch on September 21, it hasn’t taken long for the first iPhone 5 adapters to tip up. Called Lightning, the new iPhone has a different and crucially, incompatible, all-digital connector from the previous mixed signal version that’s been around since 2003. However, the iPhone 5 can still be used with existing docks/peripherals if a suitable adapter is used – although it won’t sit neatly in the socket of course.

This one, is from a company called Nanotch selling an adapter with a flexible cable to bridge the gap between the iPhone 5 and an old-style dock. They are selling it on Amazon via their Marketplace for $17.95 and it’s available now.

Note that buying from a third party seller is not the same as buying from Amazon direct, which can sometimes lead to lower customer satisfaction should something go wrong, so a seller’s (genuine) reputation is important. For better peace of mind however, it might be a good idea to wait for the official launch and see what adapters and manufacturers Apple recommends for use with this reassuringly expensive phone. It’s quite likely that it can be bought together with the iPhone directly from Apple online and in their stores.
