AMD to lower power usage of 45nm processors

AMD recently notified partners that its 45nm-based processors will be launched on time by the second half of 2008. The company highlighted that the new processors will consume less power and have better performance, according to sources at motherboard makers.
AMD’s 45nm processors are expected to see core frequencies greatly increased, while L3 cache sizes will grow from 2MB to 6MB. Power consumption of the cache will also see a significant drop, noted the sources. The initial launch of AMD’s 45nm processors will be AM2+ socket-based with memory support up to DDR2 1066. The company will launch AM3 socket-based processors with a built-in DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller in the first quarter of 2009, which will support memory up to DDR3 1333.
