AMD FX-8150 ‘Bulldozer’ – A New World Record?

AMD FX-8150 Liquid Helium Extreme Cooling

Once Sami and Brian were set up and the Liquid Helium was pouring out, the fun could begin. Hopefully we would be able to see records being broken with the AMD FX processors!

The default Bclk on the AMD FX-8150 is 200MHz, the maximum multiplier is x31.5. In order to get past the maximum frequency of 6300MHz if only increasing the multiplier the Bclk was increased to 266MHz to start with additional tweaking to follow as the day progressed.

Once Sami and Brian started dialing in the AMD FX processor, they came up just 4MHz shy of the world record. They weren’t done though!

With just a bit more tweaking they were able to push past the record by nearly 30MHz! For some reason though, they wanted more! So they kept pushing the processor and dialing it in!

By dialing up the Bclk just a bit more they were able to hit 8398MHz! That is nearly 90MHz past the previous world record! They were so close to 8400MHz, they had to go for it!

They set the Bclk to 271MHz and the voltage at 2.01875! All that was left was to increase the multiplier.

8429MHz! That is 120MHz past the previous world record! Sami Maekinen and Brian Mchlachlan now hold the current world record for the world fastest clocked processor.

This “Science Experiment” was done on near production level pieces of silicone. Once we get these processors in hand we are definitely looking forward to seeing what they can do in terms of performance. I wouldn’t be surprised if the newer production samples will be able to go even further. Should we start taking bets for the date that the 9GHz barrier is broken? Until then, Congratulations Sami, Brian and the rest of Team AMD for breaking the world record by 120MHz with a speed of 8.429GHz!
