AMD Catalyst 15.6 Beta Video Card Driver Released for Batman: Arkham Knight
AMD has released Catalyst 15.6 video card drivers that are the drivers you’ll want to be using for Batman: Arkham Knight as they have all the optimizations for this new game title. From what we gather, this beta driver will work on Radeon R9 200 series, Radeon HD 7000 series, and Radeon HD 6000 series cards for the desktop and Radeon HD 8000G/7000G/6000G GPU solutions on the mobile side. AMD Catalyst 15.6 Beta drivers are not for the new AMD Radeon R9 300 and R9 Fury X video cards, which is a bit weird considering the AMD Radeon R9 300 series has been available to purchase for over a week. You can download AMD Catalyst 14.5 Beta drivers for Windows here.
Batman: Arkham Knight got people talking this week as the company behind the game title (rocksteady) updated the system requirements just hours ahead of the game being released. The minimum game requirements now read that you’ll need at least a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2 GB Memory Minimum) or an AMD Radeon HD 7950 (3 GB Memory Minimum) to properly play the game title. The update also noted that that there are some known issues with AMD graphics cards. This got the steam community upset and there are over 40 pages of comments on that blog post now.
The minimum specs for Batman: Arkham Knight for PC have been adjusted and are listed below.
We also want to note that there are some known issues with the performance of Batman: Arkham Knight for PC owners using AMD graphics cards. We are working closely with AMD to rectify these issues as quickly as possible and will provide updates here as they become available. We thank you for your patience in this matter.
MINIMUM:
OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2 GB Memory Minimum) | AMD Radeon HD 7950 (3 GB Memory Minimum)
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection required
Hard Drive: 45 GB available space
The 3GB memory minimum on the AMD Radeon HD 7950 is likely there because that is the smallest frame buffer you can get for that particular card. The AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB video card should run Batman Arkham Knight just fine, so don’t freak out if you own an AMD Radeon Video Card with a 2GB frame buffer! The people that have cards like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 1GB or the AMD Radeon R7 260 1GB video cards are the ones that need to worry as they’ll be getting single digits frame rates in this game title.
