Amazon.com Takes On Apple With Launch of Music Download Site

By

Amazon confirmed yesterday that it was looking at jumping into the MP3 download market. Most insiders expect that its service, which could launch as early as May of this year, will differ from its chief rival Apple by selling music without anti-piracy measures. No price points were given, but any competition is good competition.

Sources in the London Times say Amazon has approached all the major labels “in the past fortnight” and stated its desire to launch an online music store by May. The Times said the store would offer “unprotected MP3s.”
