11 Million iPhone Batteries Replaced in 2018 by Apple

Apple was in big trouble a while back for throttling iPhones that had aging batteries without telling users. Part of its plan to get users back on its side was to offer a discounted battery replacement program. Apple has given some detail on how many batteries it replaced in 2018.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says that the company changed 11 million iPhone batteries in 2018. Those swaps were $29 each during the year; the discount ended December 31. The tidbit about batteries changed is attributed to Tim Cook but was stated at an internal Appel meeting.

One of those attendees leaked details on the meeting reports MacRumors. That large number of replaced batteries was said by Cook to be 9-10 million more than it replaced in an average year. Some of the large number of battery replacements is laid at the feet of slow upgrades to the iPhone XS and XR.

Apple has had slower than expected sales of its new iPhone models. Many believe it’s the too high selling price keeping the devices from moving as well. iPhone users needing a battery replacement will have to shell out more cash in 2019.
