Google Play Store Lists Nexus 5 Smartphone For $349

It appears the rumored October 28th launch date for Android 4.4 (Kitkat) and Nexus 5 could be true! The 16GB Nexus 5 has been listed on the Google Play Store, with a price of $349! nexus-5-pricing

The page was pulled over the weekend, but it was already too late as a number of sites like Android Authority were able to take screen shots and report the slip. With the Nexus 5 16GB running $349 we can assume that the 32GB version will be $399 or higher. What else has leaked out about the Google Nexus 5 in recent weeks?

Images of the upcoming smartphone’s retail packaging were posted on a Korean site named UnderKG. The purported images show both a white and dark grey or black version for the Nexus 5.

This comes on top of the hardware and software specifications that leaked on the Nexus 5 smartphone when a service manual published earlier this month by Android Police. That document was quickly removed after LG requested it to be removed, so it is likely real.

Leaked Google Nexus 5 Specifications:

  • 4.95-inch 1080p display (IPS TFT for those interested)
  • 32GB internal storage  (other capacities not specified)
  • 2GB RAM
  • MSM8974 aka Snapdragon 800 at 2.3GHz
  • 8MP OIS rear camera, 1.3MP front camera
  • 2300mAh battery
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Proximity/Ambient Light, Pressure
  • Slimport compatibility
  • Micro SIM slot
  • Notification light
  • Wireless charging
  • NFC
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • UMTS/GSM/CDMA/LTE compatibility

The Nexus 5 is expected to launch a week from now, but as you can see the specifications, pricing, retail packaging and even the color options have already been leaked! Will Google have any more surprises in store for the actual launch?

The phone should come with 32/64 GB models… not 16/32GB.. Google learned nothing from the 8/16GB Nexus 4 criticism.. The Nexus 5 is a phone for 2013/2014, not 2009..

Also what’s with the black/white phone? If I want black in my phone I’d just buy the black variant, not a black/white hybrid!

It’s highly likely a 64GB model will be available at launch. Info on that one just hasn’t leaked out yet.

It shouldn’t cost a premium for it though, others just do it for the customer. Google/LG will probably charge $100 on top of the base model for a 64GB model.

First, no one needs 64 GB lol. We got the cloud man! All other major releases this year started at 16/32.
And second, black front makes the bezel and display look better.

You’re half right. We don’t need 64GB. We need microSD !! No way I’m going to rely on “the cloud” for my media, or transfer it in via USB, when I can snap in 32 GB+ in 5 seconds. And replace it with another set in 5 sec. No microSD = no sale.

In 2002 no one needed 64 GB. But as people continue to load up on apps, games, music, books, etc and the cameras are now basically top notch for everyday picture taking, and video records full HD (and now 4K) videos. 64GB+ is very much a need in todays world.

As for the cloud, that’s only good in theory, and if you are constantly connected to a stable and fast WiFI, which no one is. Instead most are on data caps of 2-5GB. Have fun paying $50+ extra with your monthly bill + additional overage fees when you try to access your data in the cloud constantly over just simple local storage!

And no, not all major releases started with 16/32 GB, the #1 rated phone this year, the HTC One is 32/64GB. The HTC One X+ from 2012 only comes as a 64GB model.

I don’t know man, I’ve always been fine with 32.
