Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H AM2+ Motherboard ReviewMon, Mar 09, 2009 - 12:00 AM
I was very intrigued by the claimed 2800+ 3DMarks in 3DMark06 that the box brags of. Curious, I yanked the HD4870X2 and fired up 3Dmark06.
Well, that isn’t 2800+ 3DMarks. I went back to the box and read it front and back and came across a little statement, “3DMark06 2800+ marks was achieved by overclocking.” Cranking up the CPU speed and overclocking the HD3300 from 700MHZ to 800MHz, I managed to eek out this run.
Slightly frustrated that I couldn’t achieve this seemingly impossible 2800+ 3DMark run, I dropped the HD 4870X2 back into the system and ran this with stock GPU clocks.
Cracking 20,000 3D06 with a single card was a minor accomplishment. That’s a little over a 4,000-point improvement over stock CPU and nearly 10 times the score achieved with the stock HD3300. The score scaling bodes well for the dry ice and cascade testing.
