We Found Out That Logitech PowerPlay Works With Older Mice

By

During my review of the Logitech PowerPlay Wireless Charging System, I had fathomed whether or not PowerPlay would work with the older G403 Wireless. I had read a few posts in various forums from users who were bummed out that their G403 Wireless mice wouldn’t be compatible with the unique new charging solution from Logitech. So, with the bulk of my review out of the way and a Logitech G403 Wireless in hand, I set out to testing.

The Logitech PowerPlay works with the G403

I put the Logitech PowerPlay mat into pairing mode by clicking the button in the LGS software. I had already put the PowerCore module in the bottom of the G403 Wireless, so all I had to do was turn on the mouse. As you can see, the Logitech G403 was able to pair with the PowerPlay charging system. At first, I wondered if this just meant that the mouse had a LightSpeed connection and wanted to verify that it was indeed charging.

As you can see, the mouse is actively charging, as indicated by the percentage counter in the upper left corner. The Logitech G403 Wireless started at 58% and over the course of an hour, had raised to 65%. The PowerPlay charging system was working and the Logitech G403 was charging in wireless mode.

This is a use at your own risk scenario and I have only had this test setup for less than a week, total, so I can’t comment on long-term results, yet. After speaking with my contact at Logitech, he explained that while PowerPlay wireless charging may work with the G403 Wireless, Logitech doesn’t officially support it and any damage or issues that may arise from using PowerPlay with the G403 Wireless.

For users who already own a G403 Wireless, this news may be what you needed to go ahead and get a PowerPlay system, as investing in a new mouse might have seemed a bit too much if you had recently purchased a G403 Wireless. This also might entice new users who are willing to take a bit of risk and forego warranty support.

As it stands, the G403 Wireless has worked with my PowerPlay for for the past couple of days and I will continue to monitor it for any potential issues, but it does seem this mouse unofficially works with PowerPlay.
