Introduced earlier this year, the D-Link DIR-880L Router is designed to be D-Link’s newest flagship and provide wireless speeds of up to 1.9 Gbps (1900 Mbps) over 2 wireless bands. The 5 GHz band can provide up to 1300 Mbps, while the 2.4 GHz band runs at 600 Mbps. The unit has three external antennas and has native gigabit Ethernet. Users who are looking to utilize fast internet speed throughout their house or small office. With the advent and expanded use of wireless-AC devices, users should be looking to upgrade their older-generation (“N”) routers and networking devices to take advantage of these new speeds. As we see more and more connected devices – or Internet of Things – users will have to take a look at their infrastructure.
With the release of the DIR-880L, D-Link is clearly thinking about this new generation of Wi-Fi user. The D-Link DIR-880L Wireless AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router has an MSRP of $199.99, but can be found at major retailers for $171.68 shipped, which is clearly one of the most affordable dual-band AC routers. The DIR-880L was designed to let a user easily connect, control, and monitor a network. The router includes a number of different features that set it apart from other wireless-AC routers on the market.
D-Link equips the DIR-800L with a design that is supposed to provide an increase in wireless performance called Advanced AC SmartBeam that works in conjunction with D-Link’s Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) that helps with bandwidth allocation to wireless clients. The DIR-880L even supports IPv6 – the next-generation of wireless connection.
D-Link’s mydlink Cloud allows the mydlink SharePort app to stream and share media files on your network.
Using the latest Wireless AC technology, which can provide transfer rates of up to 1.9 Gbps1 (1300AC + 600N), the DIR-880L operates on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless bands at the same time using concurrent dual-band technology and three external antennas. This allows you to browse the web, chat, and email using the 2.4 GHz band, while simultaneously streaming digital media, playing online games, or making Internet phone calls on the 5 GHz band. Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) prioritizes the most important data, such as movie streaming and online gaming; its band steering feature efficiently balances the data load between the two bands, while airtime fairness ensures that wireless clients are provided with the most appropriate bandwidth for their needs
