Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit

The Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit was a fun memory kit to review as it features a revised heat spreader and some Samsung ICs that were friendly to overclocking. The memory performance seen on Intel Core i7 platforms never gets old and is just as impressive today as it was when I saw it for the very first time. It was only a matter of time before Intel moved beyond dual channel technology and it seems that the time was right other than the fact that the country is in a recession.

The TR3X6G1600C8D memory kit that I reviewed here today retails for $239.00 at Newegg and has free shipping if you are curious how much it runs. There is a high demand for memory ICs that can run fast frequencies with low voltage, so that partly explains the high price of today’s triple channel memory kits.  They are not the cheapest thing in the world, but as with anything, you get what you pay for.

Overclocking performance on the kit was exceptional as it was easily able to run up to 1935MHz with default voltage.  This means it can perform like the TR3X6G1866C9DF memory kit by Corsair and that one retails for $409.00 from Newegg. So, by overclocking the Corsair DOMINATOR 1600MHz CL8 memory kit you can get the same level of performance as the Corsair DOMINATOR 1866MHz CL9 memory kit by relaxing the timings. If that doesn’t make the Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit interesting then I don’t know what will. Sure the TR3X6G1600C8D memory kit doesn’t come with a fan, but with the money you saved you can figure something out I am sure. Actually, you could buy two of the kits for $478 and have 12GB of memory! Now that is some food for thought, and don’t forget they come with a lifetime limited warranty.

Legit Bottom Line: The Corsair Dominator 6GB PC3-12800 DDR3 triple channel memory kit is a very solid memory kit that offers solid performance and overclocking with a price tag that is competitive with other brands.
