Linksys EA6500 – Final Thoughts
Working with the Cisco/Linksys EA6500 802.11ac Wireless Router reminds us why we love 802.11ac technology so much. The speeds are incredible. Having an improvement of wireless speeds is the number one thing to consider when you look at upgrading your current router. The Netgear R6300 and Buffalo Air Station both do incredibly well in an “Wireless-AC” or even “Mixed AC/N” environment so even if you don’t have an 802.11ac device, you will see a measurable increase in speeds over your network.
The Linksys EA6500 comes with a number of features that does separate it from other dual-band routers. The GUI is plainly presented to the user and experienced networking folks will no doubt appreciate all of the options and applications available. For the novice or more inexperienced networking user however, the GUI might be a bit overwhelming even though Linksys provided a “start up” disk to get you going with your initial setup.
One thing we particularly liked about the GUI is that you could configure multiple routers and networks remotely from your desktop or your mobile device. Having the ability to check on your networks from a remote location is certainly a positive and we encourage other manufactures to include this kind of feature.
Many networking companies are starting to include USB ports on to their networking hardware, but their implementation has been less than ideal. With the touch of a button in the Linksys EA6500 GUI, the user can configure the router to act as a Network Attached Storage device for their entire network. There is even a measure of security that you can evoke.
The Cisco Linksys EEA6500 Smart Wi-Fi Router can be found today for as low as $190 and comes with a one-year limited warranty. Linksys does an excellent job with this router package and we strongly recommend it to those looking for the latest in technology.
Legit Bottom Line: Packed with every bell and whistle you could want on a router, the Cisco Linksys EA6500 Smart Wi-Fi Router might be too complicated for the average user. For those who need the speeds of Wireless-AC, the Linksys EA6500 does not disappoint.
