SATA Express Performance on ASUS Hyper Express Drive

HD Tune Pro 5.50 Benchmarking

HD Tune Pro 5.50 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.

Read Performance Testing

hdtune-read

Benchmark Results: The ASUS Hyper Express averaged 387.0 MB/s read and had a burst rate of just 101.9 MB/s, so it appears that this benchmark isn’t working properly with SATA Express or the ASmedia 1062R controller as these certainly don’t appear to be RAID speeds.

hdtune-random-read

Benchmark Results: The ASUS Hyper Express SATAe enclosure does a decent on the random access benchmark, but again these numbers are what you get without RAID.

Write Performance Testing

hdtune-write

Benchmark Results: The ASUS Hyper Express SATAe Enclosure with two SanDisk X110 128GB drives in RAID had an average write speed of 325.4 MB/s with a burst speed of 101.3 MB/s and an access time of 0.147ms.

hdtune-random-write

Benchmark Results: It doesn’t appear that the ASUS Hyper Express drives RAID setup is working right with HD Tune in this benchmark.

File Testing

hdtune-file

Benchmark Results: The file block benchmark results look good with 600 MB/s reads for most file sizes over 1MB. The file transfer speed benchmark showed fairly stable read speeds that averaged 645 MB/s, but the write speed was all over the place and averaged 491 MB/s.
