ASUS AREZ Canceled By Fake Twitter Account – Real ASUS Declines To Comment

By

It looks like we bit on some fake news yesterday when we posted that ASUS was ending the AREZ Radeon RX Series of graphics cards. It appears that the @ASUS_AREZ Twitter account that has been online for five months was not official. That means all the reports in the media saying that ASUS is ending the AREZ brand were incorrect. Jason Evangelho over at Forbes noted that the @ASUS_AREZ Twitter account used Batman fonts and believes that image on the account created by no other than WCCFTech. It’s tough to know what Twitter accounts are real or not as @ASUSPressRoom is a real account and also not Twitter verified, however it is directly linked from the ASUS Press Website.

Around 6:30am CT this morning it appears that Twitter suspended the @ASUS_AREZ account.

We were sent ‘tips’ on the news story and the Reddit poster has apparently deleted the self post that we were linked to and the Twitter account is gone. We certainly didn’t make a news post on this for clickbait. It sounded plausible as we recalled hearing that AREZ pages were removed a couple weeks back on the ASUS US and UK. We just took a look and found the ASUS AREZ Series is still listed under graphics cards on ASUS.com.

The lengths people go these days to generate fake news is pretty extreme. Sorry to our readers that we got tied up into this mess, but it can obviously happen to anyone.

Legit Reviews got e-mail confirmation from ASUS USA that the @ASUS_AREZ account was indeed fake. When asked if AREZ was going to be canceled, our friends at ASUS USA would not comment. This might have been a fake account, but the debate about keeping AREZ around seems to be very real.
