Intel x86 CPU market share rose to 80% in 2Q09

Intel’s share of the x86 CPU market rose to 80.5% in the second quarter of 2009, up from 78.2% in the first, thanks to price cuts for its desktop CPUs and the recovery of some CPU shortages, according to market sources citing figures from research firm Mercury Research.
AMD’s share dropped from 20.9% in the first quarter to 18.7% in the second, the sources noted. VIA’s share in the second quarter was 0.9%, up 0.1pp from the first. Overall x86 CPU shipments in the second quarter grew 13.8% sequentially, but dropped 2.9% on year.
