SiS suffering chipset shortage
By
Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) has been suffering from tight supply of its entry-level chipsets since April due to its manufacturing partner United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) giving priority to its major clients, according to industry sources.
SiS clients including Asustek Computer, Dell, Pegatron Technology, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Hasee have all been affected by the shortages, the sources noted. After negotiations with UMC, SiS notified its partners that the company should start receiving better supply in the third quarter, the sources pointed out, adding that if the issue is resolved, SiS is expected to see 15-20% sequential sales growth in the third quarter.
