Motherboard shipments to drop 15% on quarter in 4Q08

Motherboard shipments in the fourth quarter this year are expected to drop 15% on quarter, and performance next year will be worse than in 2001, when the demand hit rock bottom, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing figures from Goldman Sachs.
Although some market watchers expect Intel’s Core i7 processors to boost PC demand, the report contended that high pricing of the new platform will stall any impact on demand. Overall desktop PC shipments will fall by over 10%, added the paper.
