Rumor: Kingston investing in NAND flash controller maker 3S
By
Kingston Technology is said to be planning to subscribe to new shares issued by Solid State System (3S) a NAND flash controller design house that is invested in by Toshiba via a private placement, according to sources at memory makers
After investing in 3S, Kingston will have investments at three NAND flash controller design houses in Taiwan, Phison Electronics and Skymedi being the other two. The investment could also strengthen ties between Kingston and Toshiba, the sources pointed out. Industry watchers are not surprised about Kingston’s investments given that NAND flash device vendors source NAND flash from various chipmakers meaning they require NAND flash controllers that comply with different specifications.
