SoundCloud Premier allows Music distribution to Spotify

By

SoundCloud has announced that it is getting into the music distribution market with a new set of tools in the SoundCloud Premier program. The tools allow Soundcloud Pro or Pro Unlimited users to distribute music to other platforms. The other platforms include Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, YouTube Music, and other services.

Premier distribution will allow artists to keep 100% of their rights and distribution royalties from the third-party services. There are no distribution fees to use the service. Spotify announced last year that artists could upload music directly to the service rather than using a distribution service.

The service is a way for artists to get a broader reach for their music. It’s unclear what the benefit is for Soundcloud to this service since it allows the artists to keep all rights, royalties, and has no distribution fees reports PitchFork.

The Soundcloud service itself does have monthly fees. It would seem that the new offering for artists is a way to get more artists to use the service, leading to more subscribers. Soundcloud Pro Unlimited costs $144 per year with the premier tier where artists make money requiring an invite.
