AORUS RGB Memory Shown Off At Computex – Dummy RGB Modules Available

By

AORUS announced at Computex 2018 that they will be entering the DRAM market with the introduction of RGB DDR4 3200MHz memory modules. The 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz kits feature 16-18-18-38 timings at 1.35V when XMP is enabled. AORUS is using Samsung B memory ICs on this dual-channel memory kit and it is life time warrantied. This kit will be available to purchase this month for $229 under part number GP-AR32C16S8K2SU416R. AORUS says they they should work on Intel X299 and 200/300 chipset series boards as well as AMD’s X399 platform and all AM4 boards.

AORUS is also including an accessory for this memory kit called RGB Infused Demo Memory. This is basically a ‘dummy’ pair (2x0GB) of modules that allows to have RGB lighting in all four slots of their desktop motherboard for appearance reasons only. These modules have no memory chip on them, but has the same heat spreaders and RGB lighting as the real modules. This is a pretty slick way to boost the appearance of your system without breaking the bank. The AORUS Demo Module should be out this month as well and they are backed by a 30-day warranty. AORUS has applied for a patent on the RGB infused demo module kit, which is a little amusing as ‘dummy’ DDR demo modules have been used at trade shows for the past 15 years.

The AORUS RGB DDR4 memory modules have a silver heat spreader and the PCB is of course black. The styling of the heat spreader is pretty simplistic compared to other brands, so that might be a good thing if you want something subtle. AORUS says that these are symmetric high efficiency heat spreaders!

When installed in a system the heat spreader design doesn’t matter too much as all your attention goes to the light effects. The RGB lighting is of course compatible with RGB Fusion, but we have a feeling that it is also supported on other boards as most RGB memory kits are supported by most all lighting software utilities.
