Final Fantasy XV PC Version may Not Need 170GB of Free Space

By

If you’re a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, the latest version of the game, Final Fantasy XV, will be coming to Windows PCs. That had a lot of gamers excited for the title, then the press release came out and the specifications cited called out something insane. Those specs said that your machine needed to have 170GB of free space on the hard drive. Lots of gamers were understandably concerned about this, that is more free space than many SSDs have in total.

The good news is that it appears that spec was a mistake according to Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata. GameSpot reports that in an interview with Tabata he said that the mention of 170GB of free space was a mistake in the PR. He said, “That was a mistake, actually. That was a communications mistake– something got put in a memo that really shouldn’t have. What that is [the specifications that went out to press] based on the specs that we’re running the demo on today.”

The game isn’t due out until early 2018 and between now and then Tabata says there is a “very good chance” that the specifications will change. That almost sounds like he is saying the game does need that much free space now, but the developer is working on changing that. The developers have promised that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV will be essentially the same as the console version.

The game will support native 4K on PC all the way up to 8K resolution. The final recommended specifications for the PC running the game will be announced later. Those specs will certainly be high-end so fans might want to start saving for PC upgrades now.
