Microsoft Set for Big Layoffs in Sales Division
As we all come back for the July 4th holiday, Microsoft workers in the sales department are coming back to some disturbing news. Reports indicate that leading into the new financial year for the software giant it is making massive job cuts in its sales division. Word is that layoffs will impact “thousands” of employees.
These layoffs are said to be part of Microsoft’s move to being more cloud-focused business. The layoffs will reportedly happen around the world. This time last year the company laid off 2,850 workers in the sales and phone hardware teams. That particular layoff ended up being much larger than the 1,850 people it had said would be let go a few months before those layoffs were implemented.
There are some conflicting reports about this year’s round of layoffs. One report that says Microsoft will attempt to reassign some of these sales staff to other positions rather than lay them off. No official statements on layoffs have been made at this time.
CNET notes that Microsoft did offer an emaield statement stating that “Microsoft is implementing changes to better serve our customers and partners.” There was no mention of layoffs or potential jobs affected. There is also no clear word on when these layoffs will happen.
