Sony Ends PS3 Production in Japan

By

The Sony PS3 has been around for a long time and was replaced by the PS4 that has proven very popular with gamers. PS3 shipments in Japan had previously stopped and now Sony has officially ended PS3 production in Japan making the end of life for the game console reports vg247.

With shipments now ended, there are no new units being made. With Japan no longer making PS3 units, a cessation of manufacture around the world can’t be far behind. The comparable game console from Microsoft, the Xbox 360 ended production about a year ago.

If you can’t recall, the PS3 was originally launched in November 2006 in North America and Japan, it was March 2007 before the rest of the world got in on the action. The promise was support for ten years and with 2017 here, that promise has been fulfilled.

The original PS3 was a thick console with shiny black design. The replacement for that console was a Slim model and later a Super Slim version launched with larger storage capacities. In all Sony says that it sold 80 million PS3 consoles and that number will grow a bit as supplies dwindle with production ended.
