Breath of the Wild’s First DLC is The Master Trials

Nintendo has offered up some details on the first DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The DLC is called The Master Trials and it will land this summer and will only bring new items to the game. The first DLC has no new story content in it. There will be another DLC due out during this coming holiday season, but for now that DLC has not been named.

Nintendo has set the price of the two expansion packs at $20 for the pair and there is no way for you to buy the DLCs separately. Details are offered about The Master Trails, which includes a new Trial of the Sword challenge. That challenge starts with Link having no weapons or armor. The trial spans 45 rooms and if you beat them all the Master Sword will always be in its glowing powered-up state.

A new Hard Mode is also added in the DLC to increase the rank of enemies to make them harder to beat. Along with the harder to kill enemies, more challenging enemies will turn up at parts of the game where you wouldn’t see them on other difficulty settings. A new Hero’s Path Mode is also added that marks player progress on maps.

Nintendo says, “The route taken will be tracked for the player’s last 200 hours of play time, with an included slider to track footsteps on a timeline,” Nintendo said. “This even works retroactively, so players that have already put many hours into the game will be able to see where they have traveled. This feature will help in identifying the locations they haven’t visited in this vast world, and may help players find those Shrines they haven’t encountered yet.”

The Master Trials also squirrels away a new chest in the game world that gives up something called the Travel Medallion that allows players to place a temporary travel point on the map and return to that point at any time. A Korok Mask is also added that shakes when close to Korok seeds. Various new equipment is also added to the game reports GameSpot.
