ASUS VivoMini VC65 Is The Smallest PC That Has Four Drive Bays

By

ASUS recently introduced the VivoMini VC65 series for those looking for a mini computer (sub 2-liter) with a versatile modular design. The ASUS VivoMini VC65 series currently consists of two models; VC65 and VC65R. What makes this PC series unique and really interesting is the face that ASUS claims that it is the smallest mini PC in the World that can hold up to four 2.5-inch SATA drives. This means you you could use easily use it as a mini server system, HTPC or a Network Attached Storage (NAS device) thanks to the built-in RAID support. The devices also come with a years worth of 100GB of Asus WebStorage, so storage space should be an issue on this PC!

Inside you’ll find a Intel 6th Generation Core Skylake T-series processors up to 2.8GHz (Core i5-6400T or Core i3-6100T), an Intel H170 board, dual channel DDR3L 1600MHz memory SO-DIMM’s and along with all the needed hardware to run Intel’s latest CPU. ASUS shows that Windows 10 Pro/Home are supported as well as Windows 7 Professional with downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro.

When it comes to connectivity there are six USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, and COM ports, an 4-in-1 memory card reader, and 802.11ac WiFi. ASUS also has their exclusive ASUS Media Streamer and Remote Go! apps to allow users to stream content or control the VivoMini remotely.

ASUS informed us that you can choose between four 2.5-inch drive bays, two 2.5-inch drive bays or two 2.5-inch drive bays with a slim optical drive at the time of purchase. The optical drive is found only on models with the dual storage and ODD configuration. Not bad for a PC that is just 197.5 x 196.3 x 49.3-61.9 mm (WxDxH) in dimension. The diagram below better shows how the four drives are positioned in the system.

ASUS says that the tiny system uses as little as 15W at idle and that they are nearly silent. ASUS stated that it makes around 21dB of noise at idle and 35dB at full load due to the fans running faster. We are see some folks putting in four 2TB drives for storage and using Plex or Kodi to make a really nice media player. The Intel Skylake processor should have more than enough horsepower to run 4K Ultra-HD (UHD) content.

Price and availability are unknown right now, but we expect that will be changing in the weeks ahead. You can find out more on the ASUS Vivo Mini VC65R by looking at it’s product page here.
