Razer to Showcase Blade and Open Source VR Headset at E3

Razer is expected to show the newest in its Blade Series of laptops at the E3 Expo this week. Razer is calling this brand new machine the Razer Blade. This laptop is designed to put as much power as possible in the small package it is encased in. At 0.7 thick, the Razer Blade is incredibly powerful for something in its size and weight-class so to speak. While the Blade Series has always been upgraded with each new iteration, the center of attention has to be the new GPU, the GTX 970 Maxwell from NVIDIA. The mobile version of the 970 Maxwell is said to only output 25% less than the desktop model. The CPU has also been upgraded to a 2.6 GHz i7, up from a 2.2 GHz processor. Rounding that out is the incredible amount of RAM at 16GB. The price tag is about $2199.00 but with all that power in a small frame it should be worth the price.

The second major thing to look out for from Razer is actually in the relatively new market of virtual gaming and headsets. The Open Source Virtual Reality headset or OSVR as Razor calls it, is the companys first step into the virtual reality market. Looking to compete against Facebooks Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus from Sony, the OSVR includes a gyroscope, accelerometer and a 5.5 1080p screen that is built to run at 60fps. In addition, the headset is compatible with Razers Hydra line of motion controllers. Razor has said that third party companies are welcome to design applications and operating system, most likely in order to secure a friendly environment in the market they are trying to break into.
