Nokia’s 808 PureView Will Be Last Device Running Symbian OS
The Symbian mobile operating system has been around for years, but Nokia is finally thrown in the towel by recently announcing that the Nokia 808 PureView is officially the last Symbian smartphone. The news was made public in the companies earnings announcement. At one point in time Symbian was one of the most popular mobile phone operating systems, but by last year the use of Symbian was down in the single digits, at just 2.3%. Nokia is now focusing on Windows phones that run Windows Phone 8. It doesn’t look like the Nokia 808 PureView was the game-changer that Nokia was hoping for!
During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian. The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.
