Blizzard Finds New Malware Targeting World Of Warcraft
A team at Blizzard has found that a backdoor is being secretly installed in a fake version of World of Warcraft’s Curse Client. The malware steals users log in names, passwords and other personal information from their accounts. Players are downloading the fake client after searching for the real client and inadvertently clicking on a fake page that looks like the real website. It is also worth noting that the client that is downloaded from the fake website also functions identically to the real Curse Client.
Blizzard support recently posted some information regarding the malware.
To protect yourself, make sure you’re downloading from the real curse client and then follow the instructions posted by the World of Warcraft Support Admin. The user referenced in the post, Ressie, outlined a point by point way of removing the malware that you can fine here.
So far there is no indication as to how many accounts have been compromised but for those of you using the client, it is probably in your best interest to just play it safe and go through the posted instructions on removing the malware.
