Valve Shows Off New Steam Controller in Gameplay Video
Valve has released a video that shows games like Portal 2, Civilization V and Counter-Strike: GO being played with the prototype version of the Steam Controller. This just happens to be the same version that we be sent to the 300 Steam users that will be getting the steam machine later this year. The Valve Steam Controller is 100% optional, but is appealing for games that are better suited for couch play.
Valve says that the Steam Controller is more accurate than mouse, so it sounds like this could be promising. This controller can also be seen as a game changer by some that will challenge the real game consoles. Others might see rubbing or swiping the pad over and over to turn as being a PITA and that the controller needs some mini joysticks or something of the sort. I can see your thumb wearing out and getting fatigued faster than moving your wrist over and over.
Be sure to watch the video below and see how the Valve Steam Contrller looks in action. From our perspective it won’t be replacing the mouse just yet, but the technology looks promising. Take a close look at Valve engineer Jeff Bellinghausen aimed in CS:GO and his menu movements.
Valve promises We’ll post more demonstrations like this soon, including footage of some other game developers using the controller to play their own games.
