YouTube to Demonstrate 4K Video Streaming at CES 2014

By

This year YouTube is scheduled to show off how they plan to implement 4K video content on their streaming network. Based on the Googles VP9 codec, YouTube will join other content providers such as DirecTV and other cable companies who will try to be first to market delivering UHD/4K content that has resolutions of almost 4,000 pixels. YouTube is continuing to try and position themselves as a major content provider and their ability to stream 4K content is central to their business model.

All of this reminds us of the initial debut of HD and 3D content from years ago. Hardware manufacturers such as Sony, Toshiba, and LG, are pushing content providers like YouTube to produce more 4K content so that there will be a demand from consumers. This is a classic chicken-and-the-egg scenario. Time will tell, but everyone is hoping that demonstrations like these along with all of the other exposure that Ultra HD/4K TV will get during CES will excite consumers.
