Xi3Corporation to Demo Valve-Backed Hardware at CES 2013 – is This the SteamBox?

Is Xi3Corporation’s grapefruit-size Xi3 modular computer chassis the Valve “SteamBox” that has been speculated about for months? It appears it might be, because today the company made an announcement that that they have received investement money from Valve to produce hardware designed to support Steam and its Big Picture mode, allowing access to the thousands of games available on the Steam online distribution platform. Xi3Corporation haven’t released many details about this product yet, but will be showing it off at CES 2013 Las Vegas, booth 20425. The hardware shown in the picture is at a development stage and not the final design. The company claims that it “exceeds the capabilities of leading game consoles, but can fit in the palm of your hand.”

Xi3 also announced today it has received an investment from Valve Corporation. Xi3’s new development stage computer game system is also being showcased in Valve’s booth (#25730) at CES 2013. No additional details about Xi3’s new system or Valve’s investment in Xi3 will be released at this time.
