World Video Game Hall of Fame 2017 Game Titles To Be Announced Today

The World Video Game Hall of Fame will announce later today what game titles will be inducted in 2017. The final inductees are chosen with guidance from an international selection advisory committee made up of journalists, scholars, and other individuals familiar with the history of video games and their role in society. The inductees will be announced during a ceremony at The Strong museum on Thursday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m.

The following game titles are the 12 finalists for this year’s class:

  • Donkey Kong
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Microsoft Windows Solitaire
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Myst
  • Pokemon Red and Green
  • Portal
  • Resident Evil
  • Street Fighter II
  • Tomb RaiderWii Sports

The World Video Game Hall of Fame was established in 2015 to recognize individual electronic games of all types. Inductees to the first class (2015) of the World Video Game Hall of Fame were DOOM, Pong, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and World of Warcraft. In 2016 they inducted Grand Theft Auto III, The Legend of Zelda, The Oregon Trail, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders.
